faith
Isn't faith an abdication of the human will, a pragmatic acceptance that there are some things beyond our practical influence? It need not be a matter of the supernatural, or the supreme expression of spirituality. It is simply a coming to terms, as mortal constructs, with our blind spots and arm's lengths, the extent of our staminas, the limits of our vision (or even our attention), the reality of our lifespans, and opportunities foregone? Some things we just have to let be. Faith then is the recognition (or perhaps tolerance) of boundaries. It is a demonstration of the power of human weakness. The chasm occupied by our inattention and incomprehension, the space we give up as beyond our practical ken, has spawned all sorts of monsters, including the notion of God.
